What early closure means for the community

Bayswater and Loy Yang A

2 March 2022

Two coal-fired power stations owned by AGL, Bayswater and Loy Yang A, have announced that they are closing early, but only by two and three years (in 2033 and 2045) respectively.

These announcements are a disappointing outcome for the health of communities living near these coal power stations as it locks them into breathing toxic air for up to two more decades.

We are calling on government, industry and community groups to work together to enact a plan to reduce the health burden on residents ahead of closure and give the community certainty as coal is inevitably phased out.

Let's use the law to create a radically better world.
