Environmental justice for communities that bear the brunt of environmental harms
At the core of everything we do is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people in the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies, regardless of your postcode or income, your gender or abilities, or the colour of your skin.
Powerful and diverse community collaborations tackle injustice and win
We collaborate with people and organisations from all walks of life, from small community groups in regional coal mining communities, to big social justice organisations in major cities, to First Nations communities fighting for Country. We build coalitions across a broad range of sectors because we are stronger together. We join forces with unlikely allies to fight for justice because what unites us is stronger than what divides us.
A legal and political system that is fair and just for all
We tackle problematic structures and flaws in the legal and political systems that drive injustice and inequality. We build the power of disadvantaged people and communities who bear the brunt of environmental harms and put them at the centre of our work. We protect the people’s voice in the legal system and hold governments and corporations to account when they try to overpower it.
Justice for First Nations communities
There can be no environmental justice without justice for First Nations people. We follow the leadership of the First Nations communities we offer legal support to and amplify their campaigns for healthy Country and culture. We are building our capacity to support more First Nations communities fighting for Country. Justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will underpin all of our work.
A workplace that is safe, inclusive and accessible for all
We celebrate diverse identities and ensure the equal opportunity and treatment of everyone in our team. We are working to make sure our team reflects the diversity of the community, breaking down barriers and improving accessibility for people from all walks of life. We are firmly anti racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and sexism – actively un-learning and deconstructing discrimination within ourselves, our organisation, and the movement.
A team that learns from mistakes and evolves every day
We are committed to doing the work, no matter how hard, to be a more equitable and inclusive organisation. We know this an ongoing journey and we are here for it, every step of the way. We will listen, train, discuss, amplify and learn from those with lived experience. We are not afraid to make mistakes and own them so we can continue to learn.
