Health experts, campaigners and community members gathered on the steps of Parliament to deliver a copy of The People’s Clean Air Action Plan to Vic Health Minister Martin Foley. We heard from a range of speakers, including: A/Prof Lou Irving, who spoke about the health impacts of air pollution; Heike Weber, who gave her perspective on air pollution as a resident of the Latrobe Valley; Martin Wurt – President of the Maribyrnong Truck Action Group, who explained why vehicle emission standards need to be improved; and Liz Pool, who outlined why we need to reduce air pollution from wood heaters to protect health.
Rallying amongst the speakers were a giant set of inflatable lungs and a life-sized skeleton which made for a colourful and vibrant action. The action gained media traction, including on WIN News Gippsland. Vic Health Minister Martin Foley was also in attendance to receive a copy of the plan.
