Securing Victoria’s strong climate change laws
We campaigned for tough laws to address the climate crisis in Victoria, helping to shape current legislation protecting people and places we love.
Our lawyers’ advocacy helped secure several elements of Victoria’s Climate Change Act today including a whole-of-government consideration of climate emissions and effects.
The Act also enshrines a target of net-zero emissions in Victoria by 2050 alongside five yearly targets.
We continue to work with community and government to ensure our laws do what they were made to, hold the powerful to account and protect our communities and environment.

New Victorian Climate Laws set mandate for whole of government action on climate
Victoria will soon have brand new climate laws thanks to the Victorian Parliament passing the Victorian Climate Change Bill today. We congratulate the Andrews Government on this important step that makes Victoria a leader on climate action. Now, it is critical that all Victorian Ministers and government agencies get to work immediately to use the powers and mandate they have been given to substantially reduce Victoria’s emissions.
