The adequacy of threatened species & planning laws in all jurisdictions of Australia

May 16, 2014

Places You Love Alliance report

The Places You Love Alliance formed is made up of over 35 environmental groups and formed mid-2012 to fight the COAG attacks on environmental laws. The Alliance has commissioned the Australian Network of Environment Defenders Office to write this report assessing the adequacy of threatened species and planning laws in Australian jurisdictions.

The report outlines the legal framework for managing threatened species in each jurisdiction and identifies some of the key issues in terms of: strengths and weaknesses of the relevant laws, an assessment of whether the laws are effectively implemented and enforced, and some analysis of the interaction of threatened species laws with planning legislation in each jurisdiction. It is intended as a resource for community and conservation groups Australia-wide to engage in law reform and policy processes impacting the protection of threatened species.
