Murray-Darling Basin Plan and Water Act (Cth)

The Commonwealth Government is overseeing a major reform of water management in the Murray-Darling Basin to address over extraction of water in the Basin. The Murray-Darling Basin Plan will set legally binding sustainable extraction limits for all Basin States.

We have made a number of submissions on behalf of the Australian Network of Environment Defenders Offices (ANEDO).

We have released our legal analysis of the draft Murray-Darling Basin Plan and whether the Plan complies with the Water Act.

We have also prepared a briefing paper on the draft Murray-Darling Basin Plan. The draft Plan was open for public comment until 16 April 2012. This briefing paper explains what the impact of the Plan will be and sets out our main legal concerns with this document.
