Environmental lawyers have expressed grave concerns that Adani’s Carmichael Coal Mine and Rail Infrastructure Project has been re-approved under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 by Federal Environment Minister, Greg Hunt.
Minister Hunt once again appears unconcerned by Adani’s truly terrible track record. In India, Adani has shown disregard for the law, unlawfully destroying mangroves and waterways, and causing air and groundwater pollution. This environmental harm seriously impacted local communities, allegedly contaminating their drinking water and damaging the local fishing industry,” said Environmental Justice Australia CEO and lawyer, Brendan Sydes.
“Adani may well act in the same way here, in Australia. The Queensland and Commonwealth officials have failed to scrutinise Adani thoroughly.”
