We had an amazing day running for environmental justice at this year’s Melbourne Marathon on 13 October. A massive shout out to the walkers and runners of this year’s ‘Run for the Environment’ team – we couldn’t have done it without you.
For the last 9 years, our lawyers, volunteers and supporters have run the Melbourne Marathon to raise vital funds for the work we do here at EJA. Our team is made up of seasoned runners, seasonal joggers, and occasional walkers. Everyone had their own personal motivation for running whether it was to beat their own personal best, get fit or just have fun but everyone united under one common goal – raising money to protect the places, the people and the wildlife we love.
This year the EJA team was a mix of rusted on runners who’ve run with us for years, as well as some great new additions to the team. A special shout-out to our youngest runner Stuart Sheridan and his mum Kristy Sheridan for being such a dynamic duo on the course!
Melbourne put on a glorious day for running on the day and it was wonderful to see so many people of all ages and fitness levels turn up to run for a good cause! The crowd was huge and the atmosphere was electric. We’re so proud of everyone for making it across the finish line, inside the MCG.
Always up for a laugh, Team EJA got a little creative this year with their marathon outfits. The award for best dressed went to Nicola, Virginia and Bronya who came across the finish line dressed as trees and lady justice, or as a whole – environmental justice!
Because of our amazing team of runners (and walkers!) and the incredible people who supported them, we raised almost $10,000 to support environmental justice. These funds are helping us defend our forests against logging, empower communities to protect our waterways, hold our government to account over toxic coal pollution and protect the health of our communities.
So, from everyone at EJA — thank you!
Thank you for supporting our running team!
