Petition to the Convention on Biological Diversity

Environmental Justice Australia has sent a petition on behalf of eight environment groups to the Convention on Biodiversity, asking them to look into the ongoing biodiversity decline in Australia. We also brought to the attention of the Convention the plans by the Australian Government to hand over its environment protection powers to the states, a move likely to further weaken Australia’s protection of its forests and species.

Felicity Millner, Director of Litigation, said “We want the international community to know that Australia is failing to meet its international commitments to protect our forests and our threatened species”.
