We use the law to put justice at the heart of action.
Because this is about all of us.
Environmental Justice Australia is a national public interest legal organisation.
We use the law to empower communities seeking environmental justice.
We defend nature and safeguard our climate.
We support First Nations people fighting for Country and Culture.
HIGHLIGHTS
Living Wonders legal intervention
We compelled the Environment Minister to reconsider the climate harm from 18 new coal and gas projects. The Minister refused to act on the science, so our client is now considering all legal options.
PROTECTING THE RIGHT TO PROTEST
We try to fix bad laws, but when we can’t, EJA lawyers help citizen scientists and forest activists understand their rights, and represent people who are charged or fined.
CHALLENGING LAND CLEARING FOR COTTON IN THE NT
We’re challenging the NT government’s decision to let a huge multinational corporation bulldoze nearly 1000 hectares of important savanna for cotton.
OUR FOCUS
DEFENDING NATURE
We use the law to protect and regenerate vital ecosystems on the brink of collapse.
CLIMATE JUSTICE
We run public interest litigation and legal interventions to put justice at the heart of climate action.
ENDING COAL POLLUTION
We empower communities experiencing environmental harm from coal pollution to seek justice.
FIRST NATIONS JUSTICE
We provide legal support to First Nations people fighting for Country and Culture.

OUR IMPACT
For more than 30 years, we’ve been fighting for environmental justice.
We use a powerful combination of public interest litigation and legal advocacy campaigns to deliver long-lasting protections for nature and community.
We believe the law is a powerful tool.
We use it to set game-changing precedents.
We make companies and governments more responsible.
We make communities safer and fairer.
We keep our forests standing for generations to come.
We tackle the destructive and unjust systems that fuel the crises we face.
We seek action, solutions and justice.
Sometimes it takes many legal challenges to chip away at the status quo.
But sometimes, one landmark legal victory can change everything.
LEGAL CASES
“When governments fail to protect our threatened species, it falls to community groups and public interest lawyers to hold them to account in the courts.
As the extinction crisis accelerates, it’s vital that our environment laws work to protect what is left.”
– Danya Jacobs, EJA Special Counsel
